HR DIRECTOR & CARAS SECRETARY
Helen Gribble is a Board Level HR Director with experience in the Construction, Financial Services and Retail industries in both the UK and New Zealand. Her experience has included managing large scale projects and teams. Helen has undertaken advocacy work for South London Refugee Association, travelled to the Calais and Dunkirk camps and is also the Chair of Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees. Currently her focus is assisting refugees into employment in the UK.
CONNAUGHT INVESTMENTS LTD - DIRECTOR
Ladan Hall joined PwC in 1986 where she trained and qualified as a Charted Accountant in 1990. In 1997 she acquired the franchise of Future Kids, teaching children IT skills in South West London. She sold the franchise two years later and in 2000 became a self-employed accountant specialising in the provision of asset management services. In 2011 she set up Connaught Investments Ltd, an asset and investment management company.
Sue Stevens was appointed to our Board as a Trustee in 2016. Sue is an HR professional who has spent most of her career working for major banks. Most recently Sue was a Chief of Staff, based in Dubai. After returning to the UK, Sue has taken a career break to explore volunteering opportunities.
paediatrician AND FOUNDING DIRECTOR OF MCT
Chris Hands is a paediatrician with particular expertise in the health and social care needs of refugee and street-connected children. As well as serving as Chair of Trustees and Executive Director of CARAS since 2008, he is also founding Director of the Moroccan Children’s Trust, an NGO supporting street-connected children in southern Morocco.
CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT & CARAS TREASURER
Mudassar Ahmed is a Chartered Accountant and an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He currently works at Oxfam and is responsible for the financial management of their global humanitarian and development programmes. His previous experience includes working at PwC where he trained as a Chartered Accountant as well as working with large institutional donors such as EuropeAid, Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
PAEDIATRICIAN AND SAFEGUARDING SPECIALIST
Jessica Thomas studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge before moving across to medicine in 2002. Based at St George’s, University of London, she was one of the original group of medical students who began running activities for children of refugee background in 2003, eventually leading to the creation of CARAS. Jessica is a paediatrician and safeguarding specialist who also sits on the management committee of street-child NGO, the Moroccan Children’s Trust.
SOCIAL WORKER AND UNIVERSITY LECTURER
Rick Hood is a social worker with a background in child protection and public care. He currently works as a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Kingston University, and carries out research on partnership work and safeguarding issues. Before becoming a social worker, Rick was employed in the voluntary sector and ran a youth and community project in Camberwell, South London.
HEDGE FUND MANAGER
Amir Ahmed attended the University of California, Berkeley where he received a degree in Economics with Honors. After starting his career in investment banking for Credit Suisse First Boston in the US, he moved to Castle Creek-a global multi-strategy Hedge Fund-in 2008. He currently oversees the firm’s London office and manages the firm’s European and Asian investments. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
