ESOL

Friendly and accessible online English classes for adults and young people in the south London area.

The CARAS ESOL and Learning project supports people in the early stages of ESOL learning. We are increasingly meeting needs for digital and employability skills through Computer and Digital ESOL classes. Our adult ESOL groups prepare learners for entry-level Speaking and Listening exams with the English-Speaking Board. Classes are friendly and inclusive with both online and face-to-face offerings.

They are guided by our values and principles, including:
participatory education, trauma-informed practice and translanguaging pedagogy.

WOMEN'S COMPUTER CLASS

We provide weekly computer classes to women that focus on entry level skills such as turning on a computer, creating an email account and the basics of using the internet.

Friday mornings, face-to-face

MIXED-GENDER LITERACY PROGRAMME

For emerging literacy and numeracy learners of English, we have launched a class with a focus on reading and writing. This is a small, mixed-gender group with plenty of one-to-one and small group support.

Wednesday mornings, face-to-face

MIXED-GENDER FACE-TO-FACE ESOL

Our multi-lingual face-to-face ESOL classes on Wednesday mornings are popular and cater to Pre-entry and Entry 1 levels. With volunteers and peer language supporters, they are well resourced for small group and individual support. Participants can also sign up to practice for ESB exams.

Wednesday mornings, face-to-face

MIXED-GENDER ONLINE ESOL

We run online ESOL classes for groups that are comfortable, or even prefer virtual learning opportunities that are flexible to their needs. These classes are at Entry 1 and Entry 2 levels. The Entry 2 class is an open level with a focus on Speaking and Listening skills.

Tuesday mornings, face-to-face

YOUTH DIGITAL ESOL

As part of the after-school provision for young people, we run ESOL classes that are aimed at inspiring creativity while using digital spaces, at the same time as improving skills in English. Young people increase their awareness of online safety and digital consumption through dialogue and student-led activities.

Wednesday evenings, face-to-face
